Description: c. 1900s - 1910s Framed antique cloth car applique and identification badge on corduroy mat. S.P.O. is an acronym for Societe Francaise de Petite Outillage (lit. French Small Tools Company), a manufacturer of machinery, from precision-engineered gearboxes to complete motorcars, that operated in the Paris suburb of Clichy beginning in 1898. Their vehicles would have been spotted around Paris or any number of international Grands Prix or other light-car races. This piece depicts the concept drawing for their 1908 towncar, although it appears the only surviving S.P.O. in existence today is the 1911 Raceabout.
