Description: Here we have the earliest Maxim's de Paris Chicago restaurant menu we believe has been offered on eBay -- a very special find. Undated, but in the style of the earliest menus used at Maxim's Chicago -- with minimal text on the cover (Maxim's de Paris only,) in the largest size made (15.5" x 11.25",) with an interior window allowing for the daily changes to the "Chef Recommendations," and with the lowest prices on any Maxim's de Paris menu ever sold on eBay (we have a subscription to Worthpoint, which lists the results of every eBay listing since 2011.) Maxim's Chicago was located in the Bertrand Goldberg-designed Astor Tower on the Gold Coast from 1963-1983, where it served French haute cuisine and fine wines to an audience of food lovers, politicians and celebrities, including Eartha Kitt, Liza Minnelli, Frank Sinatra and The Beatles, and provided the city with its first discotheque. Today it is a privately-owned social club. We have lots of rare and interesting menus in our store, to which we add new inventory daily, and we're always happy to combine shipping at actual cost. If the eBay checkout fails to properly combine your orders, we will issue a refund for the difference between what you paid to ship items separately and the actual cost of the combined shipping, on the day that we ship your package. (We don't find out the actual cost of combined shipping until we purchase the shipping label.) Vintage: undated; circa early mid-1960s; Chef's recommendations include a 1964 vintage wine, so no earlier than that Provenance: From the estate of the Lake Bluff, Illinois, entrepreneur and epicurean, Othon Ochsner (1934-2017) who had a passion for collecting fine wines, cookbooks and restaurant menus from his travels around the world. Approximate Measurements: 15.5" x 11.25"; laid out flat, the SEM lithograph cover is 15.5" x 22.5" Condition: Our photographs reveal the condition best and are the most important part of the description--please zoom in on them and examine them carefully. Overall good or better vintage condition, with old softened creases from having been folded horizontally in thirds, and a scattering of what appears to be splashed wine on the front cover. Otherwise, just light surface wear. Overall, a very clean and fresh piece, with nothing sticky or otherwise gross, and no funky odors. Rest assured that we will do all we can to ensure that your piece of ephemera arrives exactly as presented in our photos. We invest time and appropriate materials into shipping all of our ephemera. Most pieces are sent in envelopes that are sandwiched between cardboard before being sent as Priority or first-class parcels in non-bendable mailers, which ship at rates much higher than first-class letters. We never toss our ephemera into thin stationery envelopes with forever stamps stuck to them expecting the USPS to deliver them to you with great care. We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report. Corndogcache is a 100% non-smoking environment, and we'll let you know if any of our vintage items smell like it (or anything else) from activities they may have been involved in before they came to us.The Fine Print: We expect payment within 1 day of purchase.
