Description: Don Quixote & Sancho Panza 19th Century Lithograph by Lambert-Honore Daumier This item was gifted to me from a client in the recent past after I was caught admiring it. However, I don’t feel it’s receiving the love and attention it deserves as I’ve had it rolled up in the poster/art tube I was gifted it in for a few months now. It is worthy of a nice frame to showcase the meaning behind its beauty. INFO: •I was told it is a lithograph on canvas paper, which appears to accurate when comparing it to others I have viewed. (The texture on the paper can be viewed in pic #6.) •Across the bottom “751. Daumier - Don Quixote & Sancho ©️LAMBERT STUDIOS Printed in the U.S.A.” is imprinted. (Also pictured.) •The piece depicts the fictional pair, Don & Sancho, in side profile atop their horse and donkey as they ride against a scant landscape. •The artist, Honore' Daumier, lived from 1808-1879. •Online research suggests this lithograph print was created in the 1960s-70s; although, the original work of art was created around 1850. •A neat piece of the story behind the artwork below states “While Don Quixote represents illusion, Sancho Panza represents reality. They complement each other in a dualistic way. By coming together they construct one person who consists of a mind and a body.” APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS: It appears the canvas paper measures at approximately 25 9/16” W x 19 9/16” L (Measurements can be viewed in the pictures.) CONDITION: While I’m not a collector, the work appears to be in good condition overall. There could be a few minor marks, paper creases, marks on verso, or other imperfections that should be expected with age. However, there are no tears or holes. PART OF THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK OF ART: The relationship between Don Quixote and Sancho Panza is an important one. The two characters stand for different things. While Don Quixote represents illusion, Sancho Panza represents reality. They complement each other in a dualistic way. By coming together they construct one person who consists of a mind and a body. They become a person who needs to have imagination while living in reality, because too much reality is destructive for mankind to deal with. However, their relationship, which is a combinaion of idealism and realism, affects each other in a negative way, in terms of the things they stand for. Their relationship teaches that human experience is made up of both imagination and reality. This means that people always imagine although they know the reality. We can see this in the friendship of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza clearly. By coming together, they become one person who has imagination while living in the real life. Sancho knows that the things they encounter, such as windmills, the flocks of sheep, the inn, in reality are not similar to the things which Don Quixote imagines. He knows what they are. However, Don Quixote sees the widmills as giants, the flock as a trop, and the inn as a castle. By interacting, in a way, they represent each of us, also who has imaginations while living in reality. Human beings sometimes imagine impossible things. While a poor person imagines being rich in a day, another can imagine being young while he is ninety years old. Don Quixote is also the one who dreamed the impossible dream, while he was so near to reality, which is Sancho. >> Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions before purchasing <<
