Description: Here's a fairly small- when it comes to celluloid buttons - campaign pin promoting the 1916 republican presidential candidate, Charles E. Hughes. It's a mere 9/16"! And yet it even has a back paper from the Kiel Company out of Philadelphia. Did you know that if Hughes had carried California in that fall election, he'd have beat democrat sitting president, Woodrow Wilson and made him a historical footnote instead of the darling of liberal historians? As New York Governor in 1906 and 1908, Hughes got put on the U.S. Supreme Court by President Taft, and therefore had to resign his seat to run for president. No one has ever done THAT-before or since. He became President Harding's Secretary of State with the same job under Coolidge, then got put BACK onto the Supreme Court as Chief Justice by President Hoover, ironically replacing Chief Justice Taft, the former president who had put him on that bench to begin with! What a life this man led, and you may have never even heard of him. This is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. It may have light surface wear/scratches as found on most all older pinbacks. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases which we do by issuing a refund for any overpayment. Shipping on this will be $5.50 carefully packed with tracking. 7188
