One local department refused to pay their portion of the production cost. As a result, the Denver Police Protective Association payed their portion and kept their coins. In 2009, I purchased these leftover coins. They are all new in their original sleeves and contain a note from the Denver Police Chief Gerald Whitman. Most of these original coins were tucked away by those lucky enough to have earned them. I haven't seen any come up for sale since those early days. Needless to say, they are hard to come by.
