Milman.Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1880.Complete in 6 Volumes.Condition Note: The books are in good condition, especially considering they are over 140 years old! They are not without flaws however as one might expect from an item of such advanced age. The covers have varying degrees of wear, including scratches, rubbing, fading etc. Please take a close look at the photos to get a better idea of the conditions. The cover of volume 3 appears like it might of gotten a little wet at some point but it doesn't affect the actual text itself beyond the inside cover and title page. The spines are decorated and gilded, with varying degrees of fading and rubbing. Corners are bumped. Interiors all appear to be clean and unmarked. The hinge on one volume is about halfway exposed at the inside cover. Bindings feel snug and secure. No loose pages. The page edges were originally dyed a a gray color, but it has largely faded away. The books are also a bit dirty if were being honest, but can probably be cleaned upAbout The Work:Considered by many (myself included) as the greatest work of English language history ever written. The work was an instant, if controversial, success amongst readers and scholars alike, and Gibbon's fame was "as sudden as it has been lasting", according to one biographer. Gibbon's writing is mesmerizing, and his interpretations and analysis are fascinating. His use of humor and irony, wrapped in the most flowery of English; is both entertaining and extremely educational. Truly a classic work of the Enlightenment, and a must-have for anyone serious about the study of history. Please view the photos and feel free to ask questions. Thanks for looking!
