While Lady Harris finished work on the original paintings in the 1940s, the illustrations were not available in actual "card form" until the 1960s. Over the years, the Thoth Tarot became a legend, and the few copies of the early editions are scarce.Together with the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot and the Tarot de Marseille, the Tarot Thoth formed a "trinity" that served as inspiration for most contemporary decks. However, unlike the Tarot de Marseille and Arthur Edward Waite's deck, the tarot created by Aleister Crowley is considered more "occult". It incorporates the symbology and occult teachings of its creator. Each card features stunning illustrations painted by Lady Frieda Harris under the direction of Aleister Crowley.This deck contains kabbalistic and astrological attributions described in Aleister Crowley’s Book of Thoth. The art deco artwork of the Thoth is rich in Egyptian symbolism. The deck also reflects Crowley’s interest in alchemy and magic. The original Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot has attracted a worldwide following for its striking beauty and complex depiction of occult knowledge.This is the second edition of the large format cards, copyrighted in 1978 and printed in 1983 (written on the booklet). The deck was published by U. S. Games Systems and printed in Belgium. The box of this edition is known as "White Box C" by collectors.The deck is complete with all the cards and comes with the original box and booklet. The cards are in excellent condition, with no marks of any kind. The booklet is also in excellent condition, just a little yellowed due to age. The box is also slightly yellowed due to age and has only a few marks. The box has all the flaps intact, a rarity in Crowley's decks in the type C box. Overall, the deck is in excellent vintage condition considering its age (over 40 years).Aleister Crowley was considered an authority so it is great that this set includes a clear and precise overview that will help you to give readings to yourself or friends quite quickly.
