Description: Cristina Nizawa Artist’s Proof approx 16 x 20” - Well Framed. For your consideration is a wonderful artwork by Cristina Nizawa titled “Tornado”. (Title to bottom middle. Signature to bottom right.) Nizawa is of Japanese and Argentinian heritage, and has been based in Mexico since the 1970s. Signed and attribution at bottom right. Please note: Apologies for the glare in photos given presence of glass. Nizawa is known for her surrealist / fantasy artwork which blends imagery from her Latin American and Japanese heritage. Living in Mexico for over 50 years now, Nizawa’s art is often centered around magical realism and other important elements of Mexican history and culture. This is an Artist’s Proof, labeled as such by “P/A” to the bottom left. (Prueba de Artist in Spanish.) Artist’s Proofs are prints pulled periodically by the artist to check the crispness and detail of the printing as print plates wear out over time. The artist keeps this limited group of prints separate from the rest, and adds the A/P (or P/A in this case) attribution to the paper. In this print’s case, the artist also included a signature and pencil-written title. 10% at the high end, and often far less, of a total print run are Artist’s Proofs. Given they are rare, were handled by the artist, and contain or cup writing by the artist, Artist’s Proof labeled prints are far more valuable then other prints from the same run. The print is housed in a traditional black and gold frame, under glass, with a mat. The overall presentation is superb. Frame is in terrific condition. It may have a few very minor scratches, but nothing notable nor anything that even remotely distracts from artwork. Print is in excellent condition. It measures approximately 18 x 24”. The print is behind glass to protect it given it is paper. This means this artwork is heavier then most of the paintings I sell. Given this, the shipping cost will be higher then usual. A NOTE ON GLASS: Glass breaks far too easily in transport. Many sellers remove glass prior to shipping so they do not disappoint the owner when the piece arrives broken. I do not want all of my buyers to have to run out and purchase glass for their new piece; however, please know that glass is not a part of this transaction. GLASS IN ARTWORK IS DONATED. Buyer does not purchase glass as part of the purchase price of this work. If you would like me to remove the glass prior to shipping, please let me know.
