Description: Offered for your consideration is... Collector-Corrected with the right photograph forCard #955 - HAL WILTSE ~ 1926 Boston Red Sox, from the 1993 Conlon Collection set issued MegaCards & The Sporting News Limited Print Run: Just 60 units Back in 1993 Megacards, in cooperation with The Sporting News, issued the third of their 330 card series made from the great Charles Martin Conlon photographic negatives. Only recently, however, it was discovered that card #955 (Hal Wiltse) did not picture the 5-year big league pitcher after all! Rather, Tony Welzer - a teammate of Wiltse in 1926 and '27 - had his photograph inadvertently substituted. This fact came to hobbyist Al Costa's attention thanks to an email from a family member of the real Hal Wiltse who contacted Al through his impressive Conlon cards web blog. Thanks to Al Costa, serious Conlon Collection collectors have a "corrected card" of Wiltse which we offer here. The scans show the corrected version, front and back (scans one and two), and correct/error cards front and back (scans three and four). The buyer will receive one corrected version only. Just 60 were produced - a few went to Hal Wiltse's family, Al kept back a couple and we have added one to our personal collection.FIRST CARD? Megacards originally designated card #955 as a FIRST CARD for Hal Wiltse. This is not technically correct since Wiltse appeared in an obscure baseball issue known as Major League Ball Die-Cuts which are, (stretching it) something of a baseball card. The Standard Catalog of VINTAGE Baseball Cards (6th edition) describes the die-cuts as: "...blank backed player cards were issued over the period 1921-30 for use with a board game called, "Major League Ball - The Indoor Baseball Game Supreme," from The National Game Makers of Washington, D.C. Measuring about 2-1/2" to 2-3/4" tall by 1" to 1-1/4" wide, the cards were originally printed on a sheet of 14 from which they were punched out to play the game." Common players were valued at $50 with Hall of Famers at $75 and up to $350 (Babe Ruth). The collector will have to decide whether to accept the 1926 die-cut or 1993/2021 Conlon card as Hal Wiltse's first CARD!
