This coin was issued to mark the foundation of Constantinople and to also re-affirm Rome as the traditional center of the Empire. The coin`s obverse: CONSTAN-TINOPOLI, laureate and helmeted bust of Constantinopolis left, wearing imperial mantle, holding reversed spear. The coin's reverse: Victory standing left, foot on prow, holding sceptre and resting left hand on shield. Minted in Cyzicus (modern Kapu Dagh, Turkey), circa 332 - 333 AD (during the lifetime of Constantine the Great!) Mintmark: dot SMKΔ. Reference: RIC VII Cyzicus 107; Sear 16478.
