ES-1036 Hans-Joachim Stricker (born June 29, 1948) is a Vice Admiral of the German Navy and commander of the fleet from April 2006 to July 2010.. Stricker entered the service of the Bundeswehr in 1968 as an officer candidate (Crew X/68) and was trained as a naval officer until 1972. In 1971 he was promoted to lieutenant atsea. From 1972 to 1974 he served as a guard officer on the coastal mine sweeping boat Koblenz in the 6th Mine Search Squadron in Wilhelmshaven and received the promotion to Oberleutnant at seain 1973. Afterwards Stricker was transferred to Kiel and served from 1974 to 1977 as commander of the inland mine search boat Nixe in the 3rd Mine Search Squadron. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1976. From 1977 to 1978 he completed the B-course Naval Leadership Services/Marine Weapons, Mine and Mine Defense. After this further training, he took over the fast mine search boat Sirius in the 1st Mine Search Squadron in Flensburg from 1978 to 1980.. From 1980 to 1982 Stricker completed the admiral staff training at the leadership academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. After this training he was promoted to corvette captain in 1982 and served for two years until 1984 as deputy commander and operations officer (S3) of the 5th Mine Search Squadron in Olpenitz. Stricker was transferred to the United States from 1984 to 1987 and served in Norfolk, Virginia,as a staff officer in the planning department of NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic (SACLANT). U.S. Admirals Wesley L. McDonald and Lee Baggett, Jr. After this foreign use, Stricker returned to Germany and served in the Federal Ministry of Defence in Bonn from 1987 to 1988 as a speaker in The Staff Division VI of the Navy's Executive Staff (FüM VI 1) at the Vice-Admiral Hans-Joachim Mann. In 1988 he was promoted to frigate captain. Following his use in the Naval Leadership Staff, the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr brought him admiral Dieter Wellershoff to his staff from 1988 to 1990 as an adjutant. From 1990 to 1993 Stricker took over again a troop command, this time as commander of the 5th Mine Search Squadron in Olpenitz. He was appointed captain at sea from 1993 to 1995 and taught as a lecturer in naval warfare and operations planning in the Naval Leadership Department. From 1995 to 1997, Stricker was Head of Unit 7 (European Union; Western European Union; Fundamental questions of military policy advocacy in these organizations) in the Armed Forces Leadership (FüS III 7) under Major General Benno Ertmann. He then took command of the flotilla of the mine forces in Olpenitz from 1997 to 2001 and then served as admiral naval training in the naval office in Rostockuntil 2003. During this use, he was appointed Flotilla Admiral in 2002. In 2003 Stricker was appointed Rear Admiral and transferred again to Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as Assistant Chief of Staff Implementation and Deputy Chief of Staff Transformation until 2004. only as Deputy Chief of Staff Transformation with the now Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) Admiral Edmund P. Giambastianiuntil 2006 . During this time he was appointed Vice Admiral in 2005. Back in Germany, he took over the post of commander of the fleetin Glücksburg in April 2006. In 2010, his term of office ended with his retirement on 1 July 2010. He handed over the command to Rear Admiral Manfred Nielson. Hans-Joachim Stricker received the Bundeswehr's Cross of Honour in Gold and Silver and the NATO Meritorious Service Medal. In 2010 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. Since June 2012 Stricker has been President of the German Maritime Institute (DMI). [1]
