Two-Piece style grips incorporate a visible screw and screwhole, allowing easy and quick removal for cleaning or maintenance of your revolver. One-piece style grips do not use a screw but instead use an internal spacer. Both styles are traditional and historical designs and both were originally used on early Colts, so it is a matter of personal preference. Both styles of our grips will interchange and work on either style of grip frame. See below.One-Piece style grips (i.e., grips which do not have a visible screwhole in the grips) incorporate a user installed spacer (included with the grips) between the grip panels, as seen on many of the early Colts. The spacer is sent unmounted to ensure optimum fit with your revolver, with simple, quick installation which takes about one minute or so per grip. Fully illustrated instructions are included. This results in a rock-tight fit, without the need of a screw. Preferred by many collectors for their clean lines and traditional look. One-Piece style grips are removed by removing the three backstrap screws, and pulling the grip and backstrap backwards. Reinstallation is in reverse order. Alternatively, our Two-Piece style grips (i.e., grips with a visible screw and screwhole) offer the superior convenience of quick grip removal. They include a free Conversion kit, allowing their use on revolvers that are currently using one-piece style grips that do not have a grip pin. The conversion kit replaces the need for a grip pin and is actually a stronger design, and allows the grips to lock up tight on the frame, allowing no movement. This requires no modification to your revolver and gives you the advantage of the ease of maintenance of Two-Piece grips, while preserving the integrity of your revolver in original factory condition. Two-Piece style grips were also used on many of the early Colts, and are a traditional and iconic historical design, offering a distinctive look and convenience preferred by many collectors.Fully illustrated, detailed instructions are included with each set of grips. 01042300~~~~~WHAT THESE WILL FIT (Please read this through in its entirety): These grips WILL FIT the Colt 1851 Navy 2nd Generation revolvers ONLY. These will fit BOTH the “C” and the “F” series 2nd Generation revolvers (so distinguishing between the two is not important when purchasing our grips). The 2nd Generation revolvers were produced beginning in 1971 until production ceased in 1982. However, Special and Limited editions of the 2nd Generation revolvers continued to be issued from the Colt Custom Shop however until the mid 1990s. Please note that these grips WILL NOT FIT the 1st Generation (Original 19th Century production), OR the 20TH Century 3rd Generation (“Signature Series”) models. The 3rd Gen. revolvers have Sam Colt’s signature engraved into the backstrap. Vastly superior to standard bonded ivory or stag found on most factory and other aftermarket grips, Magna-Tusk™ is capable of withstanding the heaviest recoil and impact, and is the toughest alternative grip material available today, while still retaining the pristine look of real ivory or stag. It is rock-solid, stable, and water, chemical, and oil resistant. It is flame and heat resistant, and is entirely void-free, with over 10x the strength, durability, and impact resistance of alternative materials. Unlike with real ivory or stag, there is no routine care and maintenance involved, with no danger of it drying out and cracking if not maintained properly or if left in the heat. It is filled with premium natural compounds to produce outstanding aesthetic properties and mechanical performance. In addition, the material has a fine grain structure, which holds intricate detail for carvings, artistic relief work, etc., found on many historic grips. 082920 About Our Aging Process: We go to great efforts to ensure that our Aged Ivory or Stag not only looks similar to, but in fact looks identical to the real thing. Our Magna-Tusk blanks will produce an aged Ivory grip unlike any other material made today. Our aged grips feature an authentic aged patina, just like the originals, with a process incorporating concentrated U.V. light (the essential aging property in natural sunlight), along with a developer/control agent that is put on the grips to carefully control U.V. absorption, in a sealed, high-oxygen environment to accelerate the natural aging process. Through this aging process, these grips become beautifully mottled, variegated, and weathered just like old, antique Ivory, and incorporate other authentic details found on original old Ivory as seen on many of the revolvers which belonged to gunfighters and lawmen of the Old West. As with real aged Ivory, Magna-Tusk develops a variegated patina due to its authentic grain structure, and natural aging produces an authentic appearance and genuine patina which extends into and below the surface. Not only does this give it the appearance of authenticity and depth, but this surface will not chip, crack, or peel like a superficially applied coating. With Magna-Tusk aged grips, most experts cannot tell them apart from a decades-old or even a centuries-old original. While the quality difference is somewhat noticeable in the photos, the difference is even more apparent when seen and handled in person.
