His stories have been deemed highly controversial, but he wrote about these adventures and socioeconomic issues in order to open people's eyes to the negative results of our country's tendencies to seek justification for human immorality - in my opinion, THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN is officially The Great American Novel - many authors have come close to producing The Great American Novel post Mark Twain (like Jack London with Call of The Wild), but one cannot do what has already been done - must-read for children BOOK 3 - ROBINSON CRUSOE (DANIEL DEFOE) & 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (JULES VERNE) - these classics are must-read creative genius, Jules Verne is yet another French author that ranks one of the best French and global authors of all time, both stories touch on adventures never taken before and these stories can inspire children to take chances and seek knowledge and self discovery BOOK 4 - TREASURE ISLAND (ROBERT LOUIS STEVENSON) & CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS (RUDYARD KIPLING) - this pair of British authors have their place in history due to their contributions to the written word, as well as creative stories for children and young adults, novels portray adventure, courage, and the fact that knowledge of self is important for survival and success in life, which are excellent lessons that children may grasp from reading these stories BOOK 5 - JANE EYRE (CHARLOTTE BRONTE) & WUTHERING HEIGHTS (EMILY BRONTE) - the BRONTE women became famously known as writers in a time where it was hard for female writers to make breakthroughs into the public eye BOOK 6 - LORNA DOONE (R.D. BLACKMORE) & PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (JANE AUSTEN) - must-reads and yet another famous historical piece of the written word by a woman who defied the odds of her time and became a renowned author BOOK 7 - ROBIN HOOD (ILLUST. BY HOWARD PYLE, BUT STORY CAME FROM OLD BRITISH FOLKLORE) & LAST OF THE MOHICANS (JAMES FENIMORE COOPER) - both stories are classic British and American cult classic folklores, touches on socioeconomic issues and the immorality of the treatment of native people, must-read legends, who doesn't love Robin Hood and his "rob from the rich and give to the poor" and balance the archaic mentality of 'screw the poor' escapades during the Middle Ages? BOOK 8 - THE DEER SLAYER (JAMES FENIMORE COOPER) & DAVID COPPERFIELD (CHARLES DICKENS) - another Native American culture-based adventure story from Fenimore Cooper that is a must-read in understanding American history and American mentality in history, and, of course, the set includes Charles Dickens and his character, David Copperfield, who has been a beloved character for young adults of many different decades in this world's history
