AMAZON Irish folk band Clannad were founded in 1970 and for many years performed on traditional Irish instruments and sang only in Gaelic. In 1984, however, they achieved broader public attention when they were commissioned to write the music for the ITV series Robin Of Sherwood. By now, they had incorporated rock instruments and synthesisers into their music alongside the pipes and bodhrans. The resulting sound may have upset purists, but it made for extremely effective accompaniment to the series' broody, mystical take on the Sherwood legend.
