Description: Circle of Peter Monamy (1681-1749) British, Fine 18th Century Antique Marine Oil Painting A large, fine early 18th century oil on canvas attributed to the circle of Peter Monamy, the celebrated 18th century marine painter. The present work being fresh to the market and depicting a harbour scene with British and French shipping with other vessels in the distance. The central flagship with cannons firing, perhaps announcing the boarding of an Admiral or signalling their departure from the mooring. Apparently unsigned, with Christie's stencil verso. A rare survival, in good condition commensurate with age, minor craquelure throughout, housed in a good Dutch ebonised frame, ready to hang. The image dimensions are approximately: 21'' x 26'' (53cm x 66cm).
