On one side it is advertising coffee and on the other side it is advertising teas. It is dated 1912 and was printed by the Providence Lithograph Company, Rhode Island. Formed in 1878, when New England coffee merchant James S. Sanborn teamed with tea importer Caleb Chase, Chase & Sanborn became America’s first nationally distributed coffee brand in 1908. They claimed to be the first coffee company to pack and ship roasted coffee in sealed tins Victorian trade/advertising cards first appeared in the 1870s and were the first early and color advertising in America. People saved the images in scrap books as a hobby and so printers went out of their way to make them artistically interesting. Trade cards remained on the scene for decades, but the heyday for them was during the 1880s and 1890s.
