Description: DESCRIPTION: Extra fine hand carved antique translucent shell cameo brooch depicting we believe Hermes / Mercury, the mythical 'Messenger of the Gods'. Set in an elaborate mount that appears to be a low karat (probably 9K) gold. The pin is completely intact with a fully functional 'C' clasp and is ready to be worn. All original in superb 'uncleaned' condition. Claude Jackson (now deceased) was a well known West Coast artist who executed numerous fine works many depicting the great movie stars of early Hollywood. Most notable probably is his depiction of Marilyn Monroe in his 'Red Kimono', 1975, published as the centerfold in Roger Taylor's anthology Marilyn in Art (1984).
