Description: Carlos Gardel was a French-born Argentine singer, songwriter, composer and actor, and the most prominent figure in the history of tango. He was one of the most influential interpreters of world popular music in the first half of the 20th century. He had his first beginnings in Buenos Aires' bars and cabarets, where he learned to sing tangos. The first song to make him famous was ''Mi Noche Triste,'' which he wrote in 1917. In his capacity as a musician, Gardel went on tour across South America and Europe. One of his songs "Por una Cabeza" was the song Al Pacino danced the tango to in the film "Scent of a Woman."This portrait is painted in loving memory of the singer/composer. I lived 8 years in Argentina and became very aware of his music and legacy during that time. Jerry ScottBorn: December 11, 1890, Toulouse, FranceDied: June 24, 1935, MedellĂn, Colombia
