Electrolytic capacitors, especially those made in the 1980's, age poorly. They fail as open circuits, where they lose capacitance which can cause hum, loss of clarity and "punch," and add distortion. They can also become "leaky" and fail as short circuits. This type of failure can cause pops, distortion and power supply failures, that can kill the audio signal entirely. "Re-capping" a receiver is commonly done for the following reasons: To repair an existing problem or failure in a receiver. To restore the audio quality of the receiver. To reduce the possibility of future capacitor failures and improve the reliability of the receiver. The kit contains 23 replacement electrolytic capacitors. To assure highest reliability, the capacitors in the kit are from a premier manufacturer, have a high temperature rating (105 deg C), and when practical, higher voltage and high established lifetime. The kit includes replacements for all of the electrolytic capacitors on the MA-508 board, with the exception of the 8,200 and 10,000 uF high voltage caps, which are available on a separate listing. A comprehensive installation and troubleshooting guide to aid in the repair and refurbishment of your receiver is included. The installation manual gives detailed instructions with photos, showing how to replace the capacitors.
