The versatile Extension Model is for those canoes with wide beams or those who operate from the bow & you need the throttle closer...The Extension Model does that and gets the motor closer to the seat for ease of use and comfort. Closer to the seat but very robust and solid whether its for a quick outing or a long trip. That's what the Extension Model gives you and that's important but the Extension model does even more...... The Extension Model can go from a max of over 26" between hole centers (40.75" overall) into compact mode of 12.0" between holes by mounting the extension on top using the same bolts & clamp sets used at full length. This is added versatility that allows you to operate from either the bow or the stern not to mention it perfect or for storage behind the truck seat or when storing with your gear at home. The top brace is 3/8" thick polished aluminum that's 3" wide for a solid stable ride. The mounting block is 1 7/8" thick Ash. Ash is great looking, is super tough and won't suffer severe denting when cranking down hard on the mounting bolts. If its tough enough for Major League Ball Bats...its good enough for me. The motor block is a natural finish and coated in 2 coats of exterior polyurethane for weather and water protection. The motor block is angled so your motor can always sit perpendicular in the water if you need it. Its secured with carriage bolts, lock washers and hex nuts. This allows for super strength as well as quick easy change to the left or right side of the canoe. This a heavy duty, quality mount that won't let you down. The design has been well tested and is used on a regular basis. Yes,,, we fish....and we also know what its like sometimes........ Its not always deep, calm water & easy currents... there's stumps, logs, thick weed beds, muddy bottoms, rocky bottoms just to name a few. ....This mount hangs in there. Mounting is easy and the clips are unique. No tools are needed. Get the star bolt started with the wingnut and the clip, fit it up to the canoe and its a one hand operation from there. Easy when mounting but really important when checking tightness on the water. It's light weight at around 9 lbs and with or without the extension it's got a full range of motion so you'll avoid hitting the hull but still have an easy, comfortable reach to the throttle.
