Description: c1943 1st Edn POLLY PIGLET Enid Blyton ILLUSTRATED VINTAGE Book Eileen A. Soper c1943 POLLY PIGLET By Enid Blyton ILLUSTRATED Vintage Hardback Book. This is ‘An Enid Blyton Picture Book’, part of Short Story Series Books, with drawings by Eileen A. Soper, with both colour and black and white illustrations. This is a lovely and vintage children’s book and a delightful story about a young female pig named Polly Piglet, who lives on a farm, but was very lonely. Enid Blyton (1897-1968) was a British author who is best known for her contributions to children's literature. She wrote hundreds of books during her prolific career, which spanned several decades. Blyton's works have sold millions of copies worldwide and have been translated into numerous languages. It is worth noting that Enid Blyton's books were written during a different era, and some elements may not align with contemporary sensibilities. However, her contributions to children's literature and her ability to create enchanting worlds remain significant. Eileen A. Soper (1905-1990) was an English illustrator best known for her illustrations in the works of Enid Blyton. She collaborated extensively with Enid Blyton, bringing many of her beloved characters to life through her art. Published by The Brockhampton Press Limited, Leicester, England. Printed by The Sun Engraving Co., Ltd., London and Watford. This book is in an acceptable condition, and well used, but it is perfectly readable. This is without a dust jacket. This book is not dated; however, I believe it to be a first edition, which was published in 1943. The light paper bound boards and spine are in a worn condition, with rips, and rubbing to the cover, especially to the edges, corners and on the spine. There is tape down the long edge of the spine and inner edges of the boards and the paper is ripped and missing on the spine. There are also several small marks and light scratches. The boards are illustrated with beautiful colour drawings on the front, together with stylised, colour lettering, and a small illustration and emblem on the back. Please see the photographs provided for further reference. Inside, the pages are lightly tanned, which is consistent for a book of this age. The pages are in an overall neat state for their age, and predominantly uncreased, with just a few pages having small folds or light creases. However, there are light marks on the pages and a few pages throughout the book. Several pages have small rips at the edges, including inner edges, but this does not affect the text or the illustrations. On a couple of pages there are small patches of rubbing. On the front free endpaper there are light remnants of pencil. However, there is no further pen or pencil written inside of this book. The binding of the pages is shaky, and there are light cracks in the gutter between the pastedowns and endpapers. A couple of pages are partially loose to one side of the inner binding, and so still attached within the book and secure. There are no completely loose pages. The pages are unpaginated and there are 24 pages present, including the title page, but excluding the endpapers. There does not appear to be any missing pages as the story flows correctly. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 21.2 cm by 14.8 cm and 0.5 cm wide. It weighs approximately 98 grams. Thank you so much for looking.
