The Box of Destiny was released in 2007, and it is one of those "instantly interesting" props -- you bring this box out and set in on the table and your audience is immediately intrigued. Add a strong presentation (focused on the paths of our personal destiny) to this charismatic prop, and you have a winner of a routine. You show the box, and explain to the spectator that each large Ace (on the sides of the box) represents a certain destiny path -- love, work, health, and happiness. You ask the spectator to turn the box so that she faces the characteristic most important to her. This is her Present state. Now ask the spectator to choose a number between 5 and 20, and then to turn the box that many times. Like life's path, she can reverse direction at any time and as often as she wants, and finally end with a certain Ace facing her. This is her Destiny card. (Let's say its the Ace of Hearts -- the card of love.) You give her a quick reading on this topic. Then ask her to choose her Destiny color, red or blue. (Each represents a different characteristic) She chooses Blue. Now, she lifts the cover from the box, and inside there is a deck of cards. The cards are slid from the box and spread faceup, revealing one facedown card among them. The blue backed card is jogged up from the spread, and when the spread is turned over, that card is her Destiny card (the Ace of Hearts) and it is the only blue backed card in the red deck.There is no forcing at all in the routine, other than limiting the spectator's choice to one of the four Aces. Honestly speaking, the "prediction" part of the effect is not new, and owes much to the Ultra Mental and Brainwave decks. But with the Destiny Box prop and routine, the effect seems much more personal, meaningful and impressive to lay people.The Box itself is made of ceramic and is HEAVY. (The box weights about 4 pounds). This gives it added gravity and import for lay people, as spectators almost always react to the weight of the box when asked to turn it. (I like to tell them, "You have no doubt heard of the Weight of Destiny!") And to be clear, so you do not expect some intricate mechanical marvel, the Box is NOT gimmicked in any way. The supplied deck is a poker size Bicycle, with necessary gimmicks to make the effect work without any sleight of hand. The Box of Destiny came out 17 years ago, and seems to have been a one-time manufacturing run, because the trick began to be only available on the secondary market, and now, it is rarely seen for sale. But here is one, in this Collection liquidation, and it is in great condition, like new.CONDITION NOTES: previously owned, but in like new condition. apparently unused with all original props and instruction sheet. SHIPPING NOTE: this prop weighs about 5 pounds when packed for secure shipping.
