Description: Just as American potters congregated in areas with great mud (the Ohio River running through Pittsburgh, my hometown, Ohio and West Virginia led to Fiestaware and Roseville Pottery, for example), Polish pottery dates back to the Middle Ages in the "Silesia" region of that country. The "center" is the village of Boleslawiec halfway between Wroclaw, Poland and Dresden, Germany. The minerals found in the clay in this area produce an exceptionally strong pottery. The craft is finally on the rebound following World War II and Russian occupation, with remarkably beautiful work, almost always handpainted. This mixing/serving bowl is a pleasant example. Rock solid, a gently-shaped side that ends in a rolling rim, hand painted both inside and out...and affordable! It's a wonderful holiday bowl with good capacity. Don't wait until the snow falls!
