Description: ~*~ Hello and Welcome to the Textile Trunk! Please follow us on Instagram @textiletrunk ~*~ This is such a beautiful plain weave dyed grain sack! This is a wonderful antique European linen grainsack dating from the second half of the 19th century, with unusual and rare printed stripes; this sack was hand woven, and was once used for storing grains! This sack has recently been dyed to create a gorgeous black tone; some of the photos may make it appear more gray, but it is indeed a beautiful deep inky black! The dye has softened the texture of the linen, which is wonderfully textural and sturdy, yet floppy! It is a beautiful heavy weight and wonderfully sturdy fabric! (It has a finer weave than some of our heaviest sacks, but is still a gorgeous heavyweight material that would be beautiful for any project requiring a sturdy fabric!) The stripes remained a lovely bronze-brown tone. Because the stripes are printed they do not appear on the interior of the sack, like a woven stripe would, and the stripe does not go all the way to the bottom of the sack. I was lucky to find many of these sacks and so we have a few varieties of tones and stripes for you to browse in our Etsy store! These wonderful handwoven textiles were made to stand the test of time and are ideal for upholstery projects, pillow covers, bath mats, table runners, dog beds, curtains, lampshades, etc! A beautiful piece of textile history that would look gorgeous in any rustic farmhouse or period interior! For more information about these fabulous antique and vintage grain sacks including their rich history and creative ways to use them in your home, please visit our “Grain Sack Uses” page on our website at www.textiletrunk.com/grain-sack-uses. MEASUREMENTS: This listing is for ONE of these beautiful grain sacks, but I have a number of these wonderful textiles that are almost identical! They range in size from approximately 18-19 inches wide by 46-53 inches long; if the exact size is important to your project, please contact me directly! Since this is a sack, if you were deconstructing this to use for projects, you would get twice that amount of fabric! CONDITION: This grain sack has been left in as found, unwashed condition for collectors, but can be dry cleaned. I recommend that you dry clean only as the dye from the printed stripe is occasionally water soluble, and may fade gently with time. There may be some nubs and slubs and pulls, which is inherent in these incredible handwoven sacks and only adds to their wonderful texture! One of the sacks has an embroidered monogram that looks like it might be "HO"; another has a very tiny hole (if this might impact your project, please contact me and I can let you know the details of your particular sack!) This sack is really in gorgeous condition for this type of antique textile! inv #: BSP1 12/1/21
