Description: Besancon Pocket Watch La Bisontine Medaille D'OR Paris 1889 Boulat A Coutances Besancon Pocket Watch La Bisontine Medaille D'OR Paris 1889 Boulat A Coutances Nifty circa 1889 swiss made pocket watch. The works were serviced several years ago and do run but there is an issue with the hands. The second hand hangs up on the hour hand and of course this was not noted until after the piece was returned. So the hand will need to be properly shaped - hour and minute - for the pocket watch to run unabated. Case is 800 silver. Lots of marking in this for service. Case is un-engraved. Case does show age and wear with scratches and discoloration. The works really should be removed and the case properly cleaned and polished. The inner case does have a VERY hard to make out written detail that you can pretty much only see at an angle. The only thing I could make out with certainty was New Jersey. The crystal needs to be removed, cleaned and polished and reset. There is very old glue residue along the trim of the crystal. Crystal may be a plastic replacement, I am just uncertain but has a lot of scratches on it. The dial is hand painted, no noted cracks, needs a proper wipe down and does have some very typical edge wear and edge flea bites. Hands - The minute and hour hand look to be gold filled. They need to be cleaned an properly shaped so they do not hang up. Second hand looks to be in very good condition but does need to be cleaned and polished. Works - are approx 12s or just under 40mm across. As noted above, they have been serviced by a friend of my friends that repairs clocks and the works are now running as they should. They look clean and should perform quite nicely once the hand issue has been addressed. The bale/ring does not test silver and appears to be a replacement The crown need to be removed and cleaned. It has lost most of its gold plating and should ideally be properly re-plated for restoration. I do not know who the actual maker of the pocket watch is, nor do I know the serial number of the pocket watch. I have personally not disassembled any aspect of the watch.
