Description: I have for sale one of the 1888 presidential campaign ribbons for the republican candidate for President Benjamin Harrison. Harrison (08/20/1883 - 03/13/ 1901) was an American lawyer & politician and became our 23 President. He was a colonel during the Civil War. In 1876 in unsuccessfully ran for governor of Indiana. He did serve as a U.S. Senator from Indiana from March 1881 to March 1887. During the 1888 election he defeated Grover Cleveland but in the 1892 election he lost to Cleveland. Levi Morton was the 1888 Vice President candidate. During Morton's political career he was the 31st Governor of New York, also represented N.Y. in the U.S. House of Representatives and was once ambassador to France. Whitelaw Reid was Harrison's V.P. in the 1892 election. Reid was a politician and a newspaper editor and also served as ambassador to France & Great Britain. The ribbon looks to be silk, it is 5 by 2 1/4 inches and in a high grade circulated condition. The ribbon is white & black. and the white is not bright. There is a pin on the reverse. At the top of the ribbon it shows an eagle with a ribbon in its beak and on the ribbon it reads UNION - FOR THE - SAKE OF THE - UNION. Under the eagle it reads OUR COUNTRY'S HOPE. Next it has a bust of Harrison with another ribbon below him that reads HARRISON & REFORM. Below Harrison it shows a farmhouse with the date 4th MAY 1840.
