When he was at an altitude of 900 m, a fire broke out. The plane began to lose control and fall. The situation on board was critical. The pilot was ordered to eject, but at that time he was over the villages of Arabovshchina and Bolshoye Gatishche in the Baranovichi region. Despite the every second danger of an explosion, he tried to take the car aside until the last moment. After flying almost a kilometer, the plane crashed and exploded at a considerable distance from the houses. It was not just a kilometer - the last fractions of a second of the life of the courageous pilot Vladimir Karvat were tightly soldered to each of its meters. And future minutes, hours, years of life of many dozens of lives he saved.The disaster was witnessed by many local residents who rushed to the burning wreckage to help the pilot. After 20 minutes, firefighters arrived from the urban village of Gorodishche. It was possible to bring down the flame, preventing the cockpit from igniting, but the pilot died when the plane crashed. According to the commission investigating the causes of the crash, it was established that Vladimir Karvat did everything possible until the last second to prevent the plane from falling on populated areas. Aviation lieutenant colonel, military pilot first class Vladimir Karvat died at the age of 37. On November 21, 1996, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Belarus for his courage and heroism in the performance of military duty. Vladimir Karvat became the first Hero of Belarus.
