Description: This is an amazing emerald green Early brand four point trade blanket coat, known as a capote in the old Buffalo days in Montana, where the Native Americans obtained trade blankets to fashion these coats with fanciful long hoods, sash, belts, and fringes reinforced around the edges with sewing this is an amazing example I have never seen big panels of beadwork on the Capote before! There is a big medicine wheel on the back and two large epaulets of beads on each shoulder there is also a brass tack work hammered into the wool. On all the black stripes you will find metal grommeting. This has a wonderful, long tapered hood, collars, a tailored sash, that tightens the blanket like coat around the body( no buttons). It is 50 inches from shoulder to bottom hem. It is also a maximum 50 jacket size based on arm pit to pit length. It is a slender mens xl but could be worn by smaller people easily. It would just be more of a loose blanket fit and of course it is basically a blanket sewn together in simple ways so of course you could tailor it. is a larger person might have to open up the armpits a little bit there is a 25 inch sleeve in a roomie hood. It is 50 inches from shoulder to bottom him as I said beforePlease make sure this fits if you care!!!!!!. I'm selling it as a museum piece. The piece is said to be Blackfoot and came in the trove of dresses and moccasins from Montana. I would like to also say, that the Crow of Montana may have made a similar capote and there's a lot of crow pink beads in the bead work here. The tribal design is straight out of the beaver trade era but I think this is not quite antique but quite vintage. Probably the early company blanket label is the best way to identify the age this is really a glorious code. I'm sure that no one will have any complaints and that's an amazing huge medicine wheel on the back of it. I've never seen such a big piece of beadwork on a coat. The emerald green is so rich and magical! It is sure to star in your Western Indian collection!
