Description: Authentic Balinese copper batik stamp of six ravens in flight. Lightly cleaned but otherwise kept in it’s original condition. This is the only one of this image ever made and is completely functional! There are minor blemishes and wear as this stamp was used regularly in the 1990’s. To use, the stamp was held by the handle wrapped in cloth and then dipped in to hot wax which adheres to the copper created ravens. It was then pressed on the waiting stretched fabric in whichever pattern was chosen. The wax cools and adheres to the fabric forming a water proof block of the raven design. The rest of the fabric is then dipped into dye. Finally the fabric is submerged in to boiling water which melts off the wax and leaves the raven pattern behind the dye color. There are many variations of this batiking process, all very complex and time consuming. A true ancient art form. The stamp is 11 inches by 8.5 inches and is 4 inches high.
