Description: Located on the border of Nigeria, the Northwest Province of Cameroon, Grassland is made up of several ethnicities. Bamileke masks seek power by tying with animals. The secret society is organized around the ""Fon"" which possessed broad supernatural powers including that of being able to die into animals such as python, monkey, lephant, leopard or buffalo. These masks are worn at cultural ceremonies including funerals, weddings, farm parties, and other important events. They are used to represent ancestral spirits, revered ancestors, or mythical characters from the Bamileke tradition. Dancers who wear these masks perform specific dances that tell stories, honor ancestors, and communicate with the spiritual world.
