As usual, one edgeis slightly uneven from being removed from the binding, and there's some residue from the original tissue guard at that same edge. And a few faint spots of browning at top margin. This is an original hand-colored print - #438 - from the royal octavo first edition of John James Audubon's Birds of America, published 1840-1844. Lithographed, printed, and colored by J.T. Bowen, Philadelphia, 1840-44. The first octavo edition was produced under the direct supervision of John James Audubon and features strictly hand-coloring. The credits are in italics, as required, for royal octavos numbered 151-500. Comes in a plastic protector, and will be sandwiched between wider foam boards for mailing.
