Description: Up for sale is one new old stock Asus P3V4X motherboard. This new, unused motherboard comes in the original factory box, complete with all contents, and wrapped in the original anti static bag. Package includes one motherboard, one CD rom with drivers, one sealed bag with floppy and hard drive data cables, and one user's manual. Building your retro gaming pc using new old stock, period correct hardware is always the best option. No hassles with dust, dirt, debris etc. No damage to components or traces from high hours of use, thermal cycling etc. This is without a doubt one the best motherboards for building a retro gaming PC, and is absolutely perfect for building a Windows 98 gaming PC using new old stock, period correct hardware. There are many reasons why this board is so ideal for building a Windows 98 retro gaming PC, so let's go over a few key reasons: For starters, Asus is one of the best manufacturers of motherboards on the market. They used very reliable, quality components in building this board, which translates to very few issues with component related failures, which is definitely something to consider when choosing the right motherboard for your retro PC build. Another benefit of this board is that it uses the Apollo Pro 133a chipset, which allows for high speed CPUs, high speed FSB and high RAM capacity for a board of this era. This should allow for the early 3D graphics cards like the 3dfx Voodoo 3, Nvidia Riva TNT2 etc to run flawlessly. Another great aspect of this board is that it was one of the first motherboards designed specifically to cater to the overclocking community, and also to those looking to build their own custom rig rather than purchase one of the typical standard issue mass produced PCs of the era that had a very limited range of expandability or overclocking potential. This board solved all those issues by allowing a large range of CPUs / CPU speeds (from Intel Celeron 266 or Pentium II running at 233 MHz up to Pentium III 933 GHz), a large range of 32 different bus speeds (from 66 MHz to 133 MHz), as well as AGP, ISA and PCI slots to cover all major form factors of graphics cards, soundcards etc. It also allows for interchangeable bus speeds between the CPU, RAM etc. Another important aspect of this board, at least in terms of true period correct hardware, is the fact that it actually has two USB 1.1 ports, which is rare for a motherboard over 25 years old. Once your rig is assembled, and you have installed Windows 98 SE as your operating system, all you will need to do is download one of the Windows 98 USB drivers (nusb33e or nusb36e), put the driver on a 3.5" floppy, and install the USB driver on your hard drive using your 3.5" disk drive. From there you will have full USB 1.1 access, and can rapidly transfer files, drivers, games etc from your modern PC to your retro gaming PC using a USB flash drive. After building many different windows 98 gaming PCs, I can confirm that the usb driver nusb36e.exe from philscomputerlab will work perfectly. Also, I would definitely recommend downloading Daemon Tools from philscomputerlab as well. It will allow you to create a virtual CD/DVD rom drive on your windows 98 pc, where you can upload CD/DVD rom images directly from your usb flash drive. Some sources say you're better off using pci graphics and sound cards with boards using the Apollo chipset. That might be something to consider when choosing this board for your build. If so, it's a good thing this board has six pci slots. Another thing to note is that this board is pre set for stability, not gaming performance. For the best gaming performance settings, you will want to change the "CPU IOQ Size" option in the BIOS menu from the default one to four. I/O ports: 1x Floppy interface 2xIDE interface 1x PS/2 keyboard port 1x PS/2 mouse port 1x Parallel port 2xSerial ports 2xUSB ports Expansion slots 1x16-bit ISA slot 1x Universal AGP slot 6x32-bit PCI slots This new old stock motherboard has been stored in a sealed, airtight container inside of a temperature controlled storage unit ever since I purchased them years ago. Check my seller feedback for verification that I always use more than adequate packing materials for shipping. Due to the rare and irreplaceable nature of this vintage product in it's new old stock condition, I will also purchase shipping insurance to ensure your purchase is fully covered for shipping.
