Description: Astrophyllite Astrophyllite at an unbelievable price of only $30 a pound! Most places sell it by the gram. Get it before it is gone! Location: Khibiny Massif, Murmansk Oblast, Russia Size: Varies The picture is a representative of the pieces you will receive. Each of the small groups in the first picture are close to 1 pound. I did take closer up pictures of the different varieties. As you can tell the sizes are fairly large compared to most pieces on the market and while there might be a few small pieces in a lot I will try to give you a mix of different formations depending on how much you order and what I have on hand (starburst, massive, etc.) If you order 1 to 4 pounds you will receive pieces that are less than a half pound each (about 3 to 6 pieces per pound)If you order 5 to 9 pounds you will receive pieces that are less than 1.5 pounds each each If you order 10 or more pounds you will receive pieces that are less than 3 pounds each each (most will be 1.5 and under) Most of the pieces could if you wanted to be broken up into smaller specimens. Because it is very hard to find anything over a 1/2 pound for years I will sell them as I received them. In the bigger lots are where some of the larger pieces are but you will also get some smaller ones as try to make up a pound. Astrophyllite is a fairly uncommon, brown to golden-yellow hydrous potassium iron titanium silicate mineral. Astrophyllite typically forms as bladed, radiating aggregates. It is this radiating habit that gives astrophyllite its name which came from the Greek words "astron" meaning star and "phyllon" meaning leaf. Astrophyllite is found in a few scarce, remote localities in unusual igneous rocks and is often associated with feldspar, mica, titanite, zircon, nepheline, and aegirine. In this lot there are some pieces that are made up almost entirely of Astrophyllite and others that have the star formation. Some will be on lighter matrix and others on darker matrix. In each lot I will try to provide a mix I was recently able to get ahold a fairly substantial quantity (hundreds of pounds) at a very great price. While I could raise my prices I want to pass the savings along to you. If you were even thinking of adding Astrophillte to your collection now is the time as when I am out I will not be able to get any more at the price I am selling it for. Look and see what the normal price of this material is as most genuine Astrophylite is sold by the gram not the pound. Please do NOT confuse this with Arfvedsonite which is bluish-black to black color and often sold as Astrophyllite.
