Description: This is a beautiful Gouda charger made around the 1940’s. When many people think of the Netherlands, they think of blue and white Delft. And when they hear the word “Gouda” they think of Dutch cheese. Gouda ceramic ware was very popular in the first half of the 20th century. Gouda factories began making clay pipes but then started making bowls, chargers, plates, and other kitchenware. In the 1920’s they invented a matte glaze and moved away from their previous glossy glazes. This piece was made by the Royal Gouda factory and is signed “Carlos.” It was probably made for export - notice the Made in Holland script. There are no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. It will be carefully wrapped for shipping.
