Description: Originally formed as Arrow Airlines in 1947 by George Batchelor, this carrier flew until 1954 when operations were suspended. The airline was reactivated in 1980 initially to operate cargo flights, but followed early in 1981 with passenger charters from Miami to points in the Caribbean, South America and Europe (Switzerland). Arrow operated the Denver-London route for Western Air Lines in December 1981, and January 1982, when service was discontinued due to the lack of traffic.Arrow Air consolidated its operations and established a Tampa hub, scheduling new nonstop flights to begin on December 15-16, 1883 from Tampa to Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, California; New York’s Kennedy International Airport; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Aruba. The Los Angeles and Aruba flights were canceled, but operated at a later date. This cover was carried on the December 16, 1983 Arrow Air first flight from Tampa, Florida to New York, New York. After a disastrous military charter crash in Newfoundland, Arrow Air was forced to file for bankruptcy court protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and terminate all scheduled operations on February 11, 1986.
