ANTIQUE WOODEN SPINDLE BABY CRADLE

Description: This attractive baby cradle is in very good condition for its age with a nice patina that dates back to the Victorian era (specifically the early 1890's). From "end-to-end" the "rockers" measure 27" in length, the cradle's overall length is 37", and the height is 29". The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's website indicates that the distance between slats/spindles of infant sleep furniture is not to exceed 2 3/8" apart. This cradle does not comply, as the greatest measured spacing is 3 3/4". Besides just being a nostalgic accent piece in the home, it would "repurpose" well as a prop for the display of such things as antique dolls or a collection of treasured stuffed animals (we've heard some have utilized them as a cozy spot for their cat to "catnap"). The bowed "ends" of the cradle are identical. The attached pictures clearly indicate the overall appearance and condition. It is apparent that the through years there has been some "touch-up" here and there of nicks and scuffs. I call your attention to photos 6, 7, 8, & 9. They highlight what I'd call a "stress-fracture", a small partial surface crack on one spot on one of those bowed ends. It is not uncommon to find such on a piece of wood that is over 130 years old that was fashioned to "bow". It is on the curvature of the bow and really does not affect function. I can see that at some point in time a person applied some stain and finish so the flaw blends into the overall appearance. If you have questions please contact me prior to purchasing.
