Description: Antique VICTORIAN c1870s *LARGE* PIETRA DURA White Peony MOURNING LOCKET PENDANT AGE: Late 19th Century - Circa 1870's SIZE: The pendant locket measures approximately 2 3/4" in length(includes the 9ct. gold fancy pendant bail-without the pendant bail the length is 2") by 1 5/8" wide. WEIGHT: 27.20 grams CONDITION: The overall antique condition is excellent with only very minor surface wear noted that is consistent with age and gentle use. There is nothing missing or damaged to the Pietra Dura. The beveled back glass cover shows virtually no wear. There is a tiny conchoidal chip to the back glass cover but it is on the underside of the glass and to the edge where it is nearly hidden under the golden perimeter frame. SIGNATURE/MARKS: The pendant locket does not appear to be marked or signed. The fancy pendant bail is 9ct. gold. NOTES: An absolutely gorgeous & exquisitely crafted antique late 19th century circa 1870's *LARGE* oval Pietra Dura "White Peony" mourning pendant locket. The fancy tapered pendant bail is made from 9ct. yellow gold(tested). The small jump ring at top is gilt silver and the boarder frame around the locket compartment beveled glass cover appears to be rose gold or rose gold-filled(was not checked). During the Victorian era, white peonies were symbols of purity, innocence and kindness. Very fine quality and remarkable antique condition. Far, far nicer than shown.
