The black stand has a Y-shaped foot which has corrossion to the base of the feet, see pic 11, with a short pillar supporting the curved limb. The body tube moves on rack work for coarse focusing and a graduated knob on the limb adjusts the fine focus. A plano-concave mirror is set in a horseshoe mount on the lower end of the limb, one side of the mirror is not in great condition, see pic 9. The microscope comes with three R & J Beck objectives, a 2mm, 4mm & 16mm. It has two eyepieces 10x & 9x and it has a triple nosepiece. The square  stage has slide clips and the mechanical swing-out sub-stage. Comes in it`s original oak veneered case which is not in great condition, the veneer to the rear has lifted. The case measures approximately 13 1/4" high excluding the handle, it has a leather handle, brass hinges and lock no key.  R & J Beck occupy an especially important place in the history of the British microscope manufacturing with its beginning established in London, by Richard Beck (1827 - 1866) in association with James Smith (1800 – 1873), and later to be joined by his brother Joseph Beck. Richard and Joseph Beck were nephews of Joseph Jackson Lister, who was a respected British optician and physicist who experimented with achromatic lenses and perfected an optical microscope. In commissioning the manufacture of his improved microscope, Lister worked with James Smith, an employee of the instrument-making firm of William Tulley, to create the stand. James Smith went on to establish his own optical instruments workshop in 1837. Through this relationship, Lister arranged for his nephew, Richard Beck to be an apprentice under Smith in 1843. In 1847, James Smith entered into partnership with Richard Beck, and the company was re-named Smith & Beck. In 1854, the company was renamed to Smith, Beck and Beck, as Richard Beck's brother Joseph Beck joined the company in 1851. James Smith retired in 1865 and the company became R & J Beck and this name lasted for long time. In 1866, Richard Beck died at an early age of 39, and Joseph Beck carried on the business. In 1895 the company became a limited partnership (R & J Beck Ltd). By 1968, the company was a subsidiary of the Ealing Corporation of USA. In 2019, Beck Optronic Solutions Ltd is a descendent of the former R & J Beck Ltd.        Terms & Conditions   We strive very hard to offer a fast and efficient service at all times. After all, a happy customer is potentially a returning customer. However, even we are 'human', and although such occurrences are very rare, if any purchase is not as described please get in touch by either direct email or through the Ebay messaging service and we assure you that we will work to resolve any issues you may have. If any item is wrongly advertised a full refund will be issued on the safe arrival back with us of the purchased item. All we ask is that you contact us prior to returning the item so we know to expect a return. We try to be as flexible as possible and offer the following methods of payment. Cheques (GBP£ only), Postal Orders & Paypal. Although we agree it is convenient, Paypal is a costly method, to us, of accepting payment so if you can at all possibly use one of the first mentioned 3 choices we would be grateful but it is the customer’s choice and we thank you for which ever payment method you decide to use. We prefer personal cheque as a method of payment from UK based customers but sadly this facility is not available to overseas buyers because of excessive bank charges we incur for handling cheques outside the UK.   Most of our items will show a recorded option price and a special delivery price for UK customers. Judging the postage required can be difficult when items are offered on a low start no reserve auction basis. If we have quoted only for special delivery it is because we firmly believe the item will exceed a value of £30 and like to make sure the item is fully insured(loss only for glass/ceramics) for its journey through the postal system. If for any reason your item does sell for in excess of £30 but you would prefer a cheaper option (recorded delivery), please let us know. As long as the item is sent by a method which requires a signature on delivery we do try to be as flexible as possible. For overseas buyers all goods will be sent via Royal Mail International Signed For. Some items will show an optional choice for insurance. This again is if an item sells for more than £30 extra insurance can be taken out for the full value of the item. If it is marked insurance included and item sells for example at £100 we have assumed it would and the insurance has already been included in your price. The overseas price may be seen as no price given, This will only happen if an item weighs in excess of 2Kg as the price at this weight bracket is determined by Geographical location so if interested please contact us for a quote to your country of residence. At checkout, if you have bought more than one item please wait until we send you an invoice as we always combine postage costs. We want you to be happy and return again and again which is something we feel the customer will not do if they feel they have been grossly or unfairly charged for postage. Please note under no circumstances will we send any goods by international surface mail. Nor will we send to an address if paid by Paypal which is not the registered address through Paypal. We regularly have customers buying/winning an itm but wish to wait a little longer before settling their bill as they may want to bid on further items, This is not a problem what so ever. Just drop us a quick note saying you wish to delay your payment as you intend to purchase further goods. We will send you a combined invoice when you are finished purchasing. We also appreciate that buying online is not the same as seeing or feeling an item and we do try to provide good and clear images of all items. However if you need more information on an item please request more specific details or photographs. Lastly : We aim to make your buying experience a pain free and pleasurable experience and fully appreciate YOUR money was hard earned and give the same standard of service to everyone no matter how much you spend. If you have viewed an item or bid and been unsuccessful we hope you will return again soon and join our growing list of happy customers.   Images sell!
