Description: 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE QUEEN ANNE STYLE SCRUBBED PINE BLANKET CHEST Bay Colony Antiques is Proud to offer for sale this charming 19th century antique Queen Anne style Pine blanket chest. We purchased this from a Newburyport home right on the waterfront on Plum Island. The chest retains its original iron strap hinges and lock, but the side handles and brass escutcheon plate were later additions. The chest is extremely well made and because it’s made from Pine it would have probably been painted or finished with a red wash. It’s not uncommon to find these scrubbed out like this because when an illness would run through a community the homes would be thoroughly cleaned, including the furniture. The interior has a small candle till that measures 3 1/2” wide x 19 1/4” deep x 2 3/4” tall. The primary cavity has useable dimensions of 31 1/4” wide x 19 1/4” deep x 16 7/8” tall. The overall dimensions of the chest are 35 3/4” wide x 21 1/2” deep x 22 1/4” tall. When the lid is fully open the height is 42 1/2” tall.
