Description: This auction is for a rare Platt & Co’s square shaped oyster can from Baltimore . I thought oyster cans were all round shape and this is the first one I ever saw shaped like this. Platt and Co canned fruits and I am wondering if they took some of their cans they used for fruit and slapped some oyster labels on them. I asked a few knowledgeable collectors and they all told me they never saw an oyster can like this. Several collectors told me they thought that this can would date around the late 1800’s although I can’t verify that. . One label is torn off at the bottom. (Please see picture). The other label is intact but has wear around its edges. (Again please see pictures). The Can has a few dents in it but it is solid and intact. Top has a whole where I assume the can was opened to get to the oysters. It’s a 1/4 us gallon size. Please look at all the pictures for cans condition and ask any questions you might have. If you collect oyster cans this is an opportunity to own a very unique and possibly very rare can Can is 5 3/4” high by 4 1/4” wide by 2 1/2” deep. Can is being sold as is condition
