Description: This is a charming and sweet Antique Old 19th c. Primitive American Folk Art Girl Saint Bernard Dog Oil Painting on Canvas, depicting a fancily dressed little girl petting her large St. Bernard dog, or perhaps applying make-up to him from the small bag that she carries in her hand. The little girl wears a pale blue Victorian era dress, and black leather shoes, which likely dates this piece to the 1870's - 1880's. The facial expression on the dog displays his visible discomfort with this situation. This painting is unsigned, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? Approximately 18 1/8 x 20 1/8 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 14 x 16 inches. Good condition for 150+ years of age and storage, with moderate scuffing, edge wear, cracking, and material loss to the original period ornate antique frame. Additionally, there are a few small scuffs, and light craquelure throughout the painted surface (please see photos.) Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles County, California.
