Description: this is a gorgeous antique oil painting showing the rocky coastline of Maine where the viewer sees two people sitting beside an ocean cove which is across from some incredibly high rocky cliffs - in the distance, the ocean waves are crashing onto boulders along the coastline - overall, it appears to be a relatively calm day as the ocean seems to be fairly tranquil - but, it is a cloudy day with many grayish clouds floating through the sky - it also appears to be near sunset as the viewer sees some sun rays poking through the clouds in the upper far right of the painting - the very talented, but unknown artist, created the cliffs across the cove by using dark brown & gray tones of color to complement the cloudy sky & show the later hour of the day - in the middle of the painting, the artist used muted gray-green colors to paint the shoreline cliffs to create a sense of distance between the near cliffs & those further away - the surface of the ocean was painted with off-white & grayish colors to further reflect the cloudy day - the painting measures 16" x 19" sight size, & is in very good antique condition - it is greatly enhanced by its original gilded gesso decorated wooden frame which measures 25" x 22", & is also in very good condition -
