Description: Please see item description ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING Constable School Landscape by VICTOR MATHIAS (Wales) Click images to enlarge Description CHARMING VINTAGE OIL PAINTING Constable School Landscape By Victor Mathias 1890-1960 Charming painting by the Welsh landscape painter Victor Mathias who worked in and around Haverfordwest for a number of years in the early to mid 20th Century. A well collected artist, he produced a number of works in the styles of some of the great French masters as well as John Constable. Many of his works are small detailled studies created on anything he could get his hands on- hardboard, cardboard boxes and cereal boxes, some even having been painted on old roof tiles. Many of his works have a deliberately browned varnish finish to give the illusion of age- these paintings were maily produced around the WWII era giving the artist an escape from the horrors of the time. The artist served in World War I and became somewhat reclusive afterwards, concentrating mainly on painting.
