Description: Antique 19th century six-piece set by the New Hall China Manufactory. Pieces are made of bone china depicting The Tours of Dr. Syntax. Circa 1823-1827. Each piece has a cobalt blue and gilded lobed rim with four floral cartouches. The center of each depicts a scene from artist Thomas Rowlandson’s character Dr. Syntax. The back of each pieces is entitled in iron red cursive with pattern #2623. Included in the lot (as photographed): 1) Oval double handled dish, measuring 12.25” long, 8.375” wide and 2.375” tall. “Dr. Syntax Meditating on the Tomb” Hairline crack to the back of one handle. 2) Square double handled dish, measuring 9.25” long, 9.25” wide and 1.75” tall. “Dr. Syntax Disputing His Bill” 3) Plate, measuring 8.25”. “Dr. Syntax Returns”. Two hairline cracks to back of plate, not noticeable on front because of heavy decoration. 4) Plate, measuring 8.25”. “Dr. Syntax Painting a Portrait” 5) Plate, measuring 8.25”. “Dr. Syntax Made Free from the Cellar” Large but well done restoration from a prior break. Back of plate is a yellowish white from restoration paint. Please see photos for details. 6) Plate, measuring 8.25”. “Rural Sports” Small underglaze chip to the bottom of rim.
