Description: 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE NEW ENGLAND FEDERAL PERIOD GRAIN PAINTED BLANKET CHEST / BLANKET BOX Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic 19th century antique New England sponge painted blanket chest. This chest is larger than most and is capable of holding a considerable number of linens or other objects. The chest measures a whopping 52” wide x 24” deep x 31” tall. The interior has useable dimensions of 49 3/8” wide x 22” deep x 23 1/2” tall. The chest has an all over sponge paint decoration comprising of a mix of black, orange, & yellow pigments. It’s kind of unusual that the painted design is present on the backboard. In our opinion this was probably just the artist readying their hand before painting the box. The feet have later added porcelain casters that roll around with ease, & the chest is in wonderful condition with our only notes being minor surface wear and minor paint loss.
