Made by Charles Amand Durand after Albrecht Durer. Medium: Heliogravure and hand etched copper plate etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Sheet size: 19 x 24 cm (7.48 x 9.45 inch). Biography engraver: Charles Amand Durand (1831-1905) was a French printmaker and pioneer in France of making and publishing photogravure (heliogravure) reproductions of engravings and etchings from 1869 on. He prints typically have a red stamp on the rear (Lugt 2934). Biography artist: Albrecht Durer (1471-1528), sometimes spelled in English as Durer, was a German painter, printmaker, and theorist of the German Renaissance. Born in Nuremberg, Dürer established his reputation and influence across Europe in his twenties due to his high-quality woodcut prints. He was in contact with the major Italian artists of his time, including Raphael, Giovanni Bellini, and Leonardo da Vinci, and from 1512 was patronized by Emperor Maximilian I.
