Description: This unique handcrafted side table is truly a blast from the past. It with a white marble top and stamped brass gallery. It truly echoes the French craftsmanship of the 18th century. Unlike the highly-ornamented consoles of Louis XV furniture, with twisting rocaille sculpture, Louis XVI consoles, particularly in the late years, had an elegant simplicity. They included small varieties, such as the Console-Desserte, half-moon shaped, with a white marble and a simple wooden platform below supporting the legs, it was made of oak and mahogany, with slender tapering straight legs, with small drawers, discreet gilded bronze ornament, and a delicate ring of gilded bronze around the top. Other small consoles featured discreet marquetry of ebony, rosewood, tinted beech, and ash wood. READ**** THE MARBLE TOP DOES HAVE A CRACK IN IT AS SEEN IN THE PHOTOS THERE IS ALSO A FEW MINOR DINGS ON THE LEGS. PHOTOS SHOULD SHOW ALL. This table was made in France. Hand carved and crafted. The brass gallery is stamped. The straight lines are indicative of the Louis XVI era. THE BRASS IS AGED AND HAS SOME GREENING, However I left this to show the natural patina. If you prefer for it to be cleaned to perfection and brought back to its earlier days the materials used on this table are easily restored and cleaned. By request I don’t mind doing it before you purchase. If you are a serious buyer. I truly just wanted to keep the history and beauty of its long years for the buyer to make the decision themselves as to if they wanted to keep the time this table has accrued. The marble top is in remarkably great shape too. (I have a second one where the marble has cracked over the centuries as well inquire if you are interested) VERY RARE TO SEE THE BRASS ACCENTS ON THE UPPER LEGS ON THESE TYPES OF FRENCH TABLES AS WELL.
