Description: This is a beautiful antique “Limoges France LS&S” basket with the French blue cornflower sprig pattern and gold handle. This pattern was a favorite of Queen Marie Antoinette. Porcelain with a pattern of blue cornflower sprigs originated with pieces made for Queen Marie Antoinette by the Sevres factory and subsequently produced by numerous other factories in France, and throughout Europe and England. The basket is marked with the green “Limoges France” imprint, which dates it between 1891 - 1914. The “LS&S” mark refers to the name of the decorator and importer, Lazarus Straus and Sons of New York (1895-1927). The company was established by father and son Lazarus and Isidor Straus in 1865. Isidor negotiated the purchase of Macy’s Department Store and sadly perished on the Titanic alongside his wife. lS&S were major importers of porcelain and fine china to the United Stares. This basket was originally sold in America. It is over 100 years old. This Limoges basket is in excellent condition.
