Description: This is a large and sturdy Kindjal, or Qama, from the 19th Century. It has a broad and sharp double-edged blade, 40 cm or ~15,7 inches long, that is handmade with some slight irregularities. It has the classic fullers that run assymetrically on both sides, and is of very high quality workmanship. The handle slabs are made from horn and sandwhich the full tang construction with steel rivets. The blade is in good condition for its age, with dark stains but no damage. There are remains of decorative etchings on one side of the blade that look typically Arabic. The scabbard is highly decorative and is a composite of brass, wood and textile, all in very good condition and it holds the blade wonderfully. It was probably made in Persia, Armenia, Turkey or Azerbaijan. The "qama" is identical to the classic kindjal other than being associated with Muslim manufacture. This is a weapon with two sharp edges and point. In design and functionality, it is reminiscent of the ancient Roman Gladius short sword.
