Description: Well proportioned set of sterling silver cream jug and sugar bowl. They feature a basket-weave frieze and cast shell feet. Engraved with a full coat of arms/crest, accompanied by the Latin text 'SPES MEA IN DEO”. The hallmarks read: - the makers mark of James Ede & Alexander Hewat, - the English Lion Passant hallmark denominating 92.5 percent pure silver, - the crowned leopard’s head which the London assay office used prior to 1821 (when they removed the crown), - the year mark ‘N’ to signify the pieces were assayed in 1808, and - the duty mark of George III to show that appropriate taxes had been paid. Both items in great condition with normal signs of use given their 216 year age. No signs of restoration or repair. Please refer to photos to see for yourself.
